Internet banking

The English term Internet banking brings together a new way of conceiving the Bank, that is no longer like a real building, made of corridors and long queues at the counters, the personal relationship with the branch manager, but a virtual world where you can manage your account current comfortably seated at your desk or while you are at the office.

WHAT IS INTERNET BANKING
L ' Internet banking is the "virtual bank", our bank that turns into an IT tool capable of erogarci a set of services, banking transactions and operations often cost-zero or a decent savings over traditional channels.

The service gives the possibility to the customer " enabled " and equipped with special passwords, to virtually connect to his online account and prepare the necessary operations. Exceeded the first times when we looked with skepticism towards the use of delicate operations related to our money via the web, today most of the Italian Banks is able to offer a range of specialized services able to meet the needs of any customer.

Thanks to recent technologies, such as fast broadband connection, contracts for increasingly convenient and competitive connections and the possibility of being able to connect from smartphones and tablets, the choice to rely on the Internet banking service is spreading to 'eye.

Internet banking

ADVANTAGES OF INTERNET BANKING
The internet banking service offers numerous advantages, some truly unimaginable until a few years ago. The customer, used to surfing the web, can use the service for one of the following reasons:

it is comfortable

The first aspect that is noted is the convenience of connecting to your current account online at any time of day, without waiting for the opening hours of the branch. The service is in fact reachable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access to internet banking allows the customer to avoid long queues at the counters;

it is accessible everywhere

The customer enabled by his password can connect remotely from any computer and from anywhere in the world;

it's convenient

The costs of operating an online bank account are significantly lower than those of a traditional bank. Online banks, having eliminated bank branches and many expenses related to employees, also have the opportunity to offer customers services at cheaper and more competitive costs. Often the Internet banking service is offered free of charge and does not entail any management costs for the user;

offers higher rates

Banks that work exclusively remotely and which have cut down most of the costs related to employees, rents and management of the premises, are able to offer the client higher interest rates;

offers investment opportunities

Thanks to Internet banking, which offers speed and precision in financial transactions, investors and small savers have the opportunity to earn money through online trading , or the investment on the stock exchange through the web.

offers an assisted service

The internet banking service, although it does not involve any direct relationship with the Bank's personnel, is closely followed. In case of need, in fact, the customer can receive assistance quickly and professionally by connecting to a special toll-free number , or by e-mail or in chat with the Bank's operational service.

DISADVANTAGES OF INTERNET BANKING
The disadvantages of using internet banking are more related to the loss of interpersonal relationships and the doubts and perplexities inherent to our privacy that still persist, such as:

loss of that special relationship that, up until a few years ago, was established between the customer and the branch manager, made up of mutual esteem and trust. This situation can be avoided by choosing a hybrid institute , ie a bank that works with Internet banking but also has branches in the main centers;
Doubts and perplexities on the safety of online transactions. On this point we can say that lately the degree of security on online banking has reached a high degree of security, thanks to the intervention of ' ABI and the introduction of the best control systems;
POSSIBLE OPERATIONS WITH INTERNET BANKING
Thanks to the internet banking service it is possible to carry out any operation that is generally ordered at the branch office, including:

check the current account balance at any time;
transferring money from an account to another of the customer;
prepare national and international bank transfers to any destination;
pay bills online;
mobile phone charging operations;
invest in the stock exchange and keep the performance of its investments under control;
monitor the financial market;
TYPES OF INTERNET BANKING
We can distinguish three different types of service:

Informational : it is the most basic;
Communicative : allows interaction between the Bank and the customer, who can access certain online banking services;
Transactional : allows the execution of online debit / credit transactions;
HOW TO DEFEND YOUR ONLINE PRIVACY
One of the greatest dangers and fears of those who carry out banking transactions via the web is the loss of their identity . One of the most common scams that endanger e-banking is represented by phishing , the English term that expresses the attempt by an attacker to obtain sensitive data in order to violate the online account of others.

Is it possible to defend against the threat of phishing? Of course yes, just put into practice small but effective rules of behavior, such as:

never download programs of dubious origin, because they can hide malicious malware;
not to communicate to anyone their sensitive data , including passwords and data access to Internet banking. This also applies to requests that can be sent by e-mail . Generally, the phishing technique consists in sending an email containing a link to click. The customer, confused by the perfect graphics that reproduces the logo of his Bank, opens the email and provides sensitive data, giving the possibility to the scammers to access the current account online;
Always keep track of your balance and the latest banking transactions carried out via internet banking;
Install and keep up-to-date antivirus , firewell and antispyware programs;
HOW TO REQUEST THE SERVICE
The service is requested directly from your bank. Today there are many Banks that operate exclusively online or combine the activities of the counter to manage the accounts through Internet banking.

HOW TO ACCESS THE SERVICE
All customers of a bank that provides the internet banking service can access it, provided they have some basic requirements:

possession of a PC with relative Internet connection;
possession of a password and authorization from the Bank;
minimum knowledge of the web and surfing the net;

Credit card security

The credit card is presented as a plastic card and is one of the tools used to carry out payment and withdrawal transactions using electronic money. The cards are issued by various companies present on the national and international circuit.

CREDIT CARD SECURITY: WHAT TO DO
To increase credit card security, it is also accompanied by an identifying and naming number of the holder that allows identification. The same can be associated with a bank account or can be issued regardless of the possession of a current account.

Through this tool the holder can make all the necessary payments without the direct outlay of cash. Depending on the type of customer and the frequency of use, you can choose the most appropriate credit card for your needs.

Credit card security

CREDIT CARD TYPES
There are credit cards designed for individuals, in this case take the name of personal credit card and letterheads to legal entities, corporate credit cards. The latter are also associated with a user, but the charge is associated with the current account of the company for which the person works.

In general, the choice of credit card type is taken according to the specific needs of the holder. The most important data to take into consideration is the amount of the monthly expense that is moved with the credit card.

The choice of credit card will also follow a careful analysis of other key points, such as the annual fee and opening costs, which vary from one bank to another. Other data to keep in mind in the costs of handling the card is stamp duty and any commissions on purchases or withdrawals.

Once this analysis has been carried out, it will be possible to decide for the most suitable paper for specific needs. In particular, the types of credit card are as follows:

Credit card . It is usually activated and connected to a current account, it is suitable for those with a fair frequency of use. The charge for the expenses carried out is counted the following month:
Prepaid card . It is recharged according to the needs of expenditure and is more suitable for young customers accustomed to purchases on the internet. The management costs are usually lower, but the costs for top-up must be assessed;
PERFORMABLE OPERATIONS AND CREDIT CARD SECURITY
With the credit card you can make payments in electronic money in all shops and stores that join the circuit. Generally, the logos of the circuits accepted for payment, are displayed well in sight at the entrance or near the cash register.

The payment transaction with the credit card is subject to a monthly spending limit, established with your bank. The monthly spending limit, also called the credit limit, is established by the credit institute on the basis of the credit card's credit rating.

CREDIT CARD SECURITY
Unfortunately, the danger of falling victim to credit card fraud is far from remote. One of the greatest dangers, after theft or loss, is that of cloning. But with some strategy it is possible to protect yourself as much as possible.

A good habit is to check the card statement often and, at the slightest anomaly, proceed with the suspension of the card. Today the Banks provide some additional services for the protection of the card, such as the Alert through SMS, which warns of every movement that is made with the card itself.

Unless you have a particular need, it is another good habit to maintain a minimum card limit. In this way, in the event of cloning, the damage will be limited to the monthly limit. In this regard, there are rechargeable credit cards, generally used for internet purchases. In addition to being very practical, they are also quite safe compared to traditional ones because they are recharged when necessary, and never contain large sums of money. In case of cloning the damage is reduced to a minimum.

In case of loss or theft, you must immediately contact the Bank to block the credit card. Each bank provides a toll-free number for its customers specifically for this event. However, the card blocking operation is not sufficient, who has suffered the theft or lost the card must report to the carabinieri or other competent body.

This operation allows the formation of a special black-list, that is the list of all credit cards blocked as a result of anomalies, which is sent periodically to the stores of the circuit.

To cope with the problem of cloning, the smart card was born, it is a credit card that has a microchip in addition to the magnetic strip. The use of the card is the same as for traditional cards. The presence of the microchip, however, makes paper even safer and cloning more difficult.

CREDIT CARD SECURITY RULES FOR CARDHOLDERS
With the respect of simple behavioral rules, it is also possible to reduce the danger of encountering something unexpected:

Keep the pin code secret. The same should not be brought with him, but remembered by heart. If we really can not memorize it, we can write the number in a small phone book to be kept separate from the purse or wallet that also contains the credit card;
Always have the toll-free number to call immediately in case of theft or loss. The more secure the card blocking operation will be and the more secure we will be from any unwanted withdrawals;
Sign the credit card. On the back there is the signature of the cardholder, with whom any falsification will be more difficult;
Before signing the receipt, it is a good idea to check the amount of the transaction so as not to incur errors;
Keep the receipts and check the monthly statement;
Cancel your credit card

To proceed with the cancellation of the credit card must comply with all the clauses provided and signed with the signing of the contract. In this case the rules may vary from Institute to Institute, but you must still proceed carefully and comply with some procedures:

Act in advance. The request for withdrawal must be presented at least two months in advance of the date on which we would like the service to cease definitively;
Always send the documentation by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt;
Go to the counter and make the card invalid. This operation consists of cutting the paper into two parts so that it becomes unusable and is usually done by the desk clerk;

How revolving cards work

The revolving card represents an intermediate solution between a normal credit card and the provision of an immediate personal loan . In fact, the "revolving" payment, or payment in installments, exploits both the possibility of postponing payment from the month following the month in which the purchase was made, and the subdivision of the total expenditure incurred in several repayment solutions.

However, while the postponement of the payment takes place free of charge, the payment of the various installments takes place with the application of interest rates , which on average are higher than those imposed on personal loans .

As for the "balance" credit cards, also in this case you must have a good credit reputation in order to obtain them.

How revolving cards work

HOW REVOLVING CARDS WORK
This type of card has been widely disseminated, as it is a payment method that allows you to quickly get the extra money to spend, without having to embark on the procedures and time necessary to obtain financing , leaving other freedom of choice both on the sums available from time to time (with the exception of the limit imposed by the ceiling), and also on the same type of destination (ie by type of purchase, or in case of cash advance). In particular, they can be grouped into two categories:

revolving cards with interest rate applied to the entire sum
these cards can in turn be divided into two categories, ie those that apply the expected interest, regardless of the expenditure threshold and revolving cards that provide a fixed sum of reimbursement of the share of interests, which can grow according to the amounts with a logic of brackets;
revolving cards with a minimum interest threshold
these cards provide for a sum of expenditure below which the installment of interest is paid, while above it is an almost zero-rate loan.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF REVOLVING CARDS?
The advantages are easy to understand, as there is a payment method available that allows you to incur high costs, then repayable in installments of a fairly modest amount.

But it is precisely the accumulation of various small installments that can create difficulties in being able to determine the impact on their repayment capacity, creating a monthly credit card balance gradually higher. In case of installments, these go to participate in the determination of their level of indebtedness , causing difficulties in the event that you have to request a loan.

Deposit account or current account: how to choose

Opening a deposit account or a checking account is a good choice to avoid having bad surprises over time. Here then all the information related to these two products, so you really choose the one best suited to us.

HOW TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A DEPOSIT ACCOUNT OR A CURRENT ACCOUNT
How to best choose to save our savings? Current account or account deposit? A short guide gives us all the information about these products.

Deposit account or current account

When you receive your first salary, or you decide to open the VAT number for your work, it is essential and necessary to find where to deposit your money. The next step, for many consumers, is to put the deposit accounts offered by the banks in comparison, together with the proposals relating to traditional current accounts, so as to find the product that best suits their needs.

Let us remember, even if it should already be known to all, that these are absolutely safe instruments. Both the deposit accounts and the traditional accounts are in fact guaranteed by the Interbank Deposit Protection Fund which, in the event of bankruptcy of the bank, will reimburse every account holder up to a maximum of 100 thousand euros.

But how can a young person or in any case an inexperienced consumer find the cheapest bank account or the deposit account that saves the most? The first thing to do is to know both products well and then evaluate which one is closest to our requests.

BANK ACCOUNT
The current account is certainly already better known than the deposit account, until recently it was also the only one offered by the banks, so in the family it is probable that only this will be used to deposit the profits.

With the current account you can charge your salaries, your pension, and all the money earned in general. Through the current account today, you can also make payments directly from your home pc or from our bank's ATMs: bills, mortgages, and other bills can be debited as well.

At the time of signing a contract to open a current account, you will receive your IBAN number, the code of 27 between numbers and letters that identifies it, so you can use the account to be charged any digits from third parties or even for other banking operation.

With the opening of a current account, an ATM card, a credit card and a checkbook are usually provided. However, it may happen that for some contracts, the cheaper ones, this possibility is not foreseen. In fact, the cards and the checkbook usually include a cost, which is combined with those for opening and managing the account.

On the other hand, one of the characteristics that penalize the current account is the interest rate: this is not provided for all types of products, but never exceeds almost 0.5% per year.

DEPOSIT ACCOUNT
Coming to the deposit account, this allows you to deposit money with very convenient interest rates compared to the current account. The deposit account is always linked to a current account that acts as a filter. Even within the deposit account can be credited salaries and pensions, even if not always, so be careful to read the characteristics of the product.

The deposit account can be free or tied: free if we can have the sums deposited when we want, bound when they are blocked for a certain period of time in the bank (minimum 12 months). However, the restricted account has higher interests which will allow us to earn more at the end of the contract.

The deposit account provides a limited number of operations that can be carried out: deposit and withdrawal of the sums are the most common. For the deposit account there are no fixed costs for management and operations, nor any additional expenses for the opening.

Credit cards: how to choose

Credit cards are an important tool and used by many consumers: from those to balance to revolving, before choosing it is good to inquire about the characteristics of each and then sign a new contract.

CREDIT CARDS: KNOW THE VARIOUS TYPES
Credit cards and revolving cards: the differences and advantages of both to consciously choose your payment instrument.

Credit cards

HOW TO FIND THE MOST SUITABLE CREDIT CARD
Electronic payment cards are a widespread tool, both for their convenience and for their security. Thanks to the variety of products offered by the banks, moreover, to find the tailor-made solution for itself it will only be necessary to inquire about prepaid cards and their different types, rather than traditional or revolving credit cards.

Compared to carrying too much cash, payment cards are a safer choice. Of course, it can also happen to lose them, but in these cases just follow these simple instructions on how to block your credit card , thus preventing any loss of money.

However, there are very different types of cards, which is why it is advisable to be well informed. In this choice it is necessary, in fact, to first evaluate one's own needs and habits, because for each user there is an advantageous credit card, designed precisely to satisfy certain needs.

In fact, there are two main types of credit card: the balance and installment ones, better known as revolving cards. Each has its specific characteristics and its advantages.

CREDIT CARDS
The credit card is the most widespread and known in Italy. It is usually granted by a credit institution following the opening of a bank account. In order to make purchases or payments, in fact, the credit card must be connected to a current account from which "to withdraw" the necessary sums, even within the limits of the limits established by the bank.

The advantage of the balance card consists in the possibility of deferring the expenses incurred, as the charge of the sums spent takes place the following month. This transaction does not involve the payment of interest or additional costs: the amount spent will be deducted in a single payment from your current account, usually between the first and fifteen months of the month following the expenses incurred.

The credit card costs vary depending on the credit institution with which a current account has been opened. Often, in the case of online banks, fees for opening and running and the monthly credit card fee is free. In other cases, however, the monthly fee can amount to several tens of euros.

In addition, in some cases you will have to pay the cost of the bank statements, the fees on cash withdrawals and any cost to block the card in case of theft or loss.

If your current account has been subscribed online, you will be able to connect to the bank's website to check your movements and your card balance.

REVOLVING CARDS
The revolving cards, on the other hand, allow for the payment of the costs incurred by the customer with the card. The amount spent will have to be returned to the bank by a pre-established date and with the payment of an interest rate on the installments.

Using a revolving card is like taking out a personal loan: when you make a purchase, the amount spent will not be immediately deducted from the client's current account, but diluted over time in less heavy installments to be incurred.

The advantage of revolving cards is their flexibility: it is the customer who chooses the number of monthly installments and their amount and it is also possible to pay a single installment including the entire amount to be repaid. The installments must also include interest on the amounts actually used and not on those made available by the bank.

The maximum limit that can be spent with the revolving card is established by the institution and is usually decided on the basis of the creditworthiness of the client. In this regard, the customer to obtain a revolving card must produce documents to guarantee its solid economic position and reliability.

Revolving cards usually involve activation fees and the payment of an annual fee. Attention however: usually the interest rates applied to the amounts to be returned are very high, so we must carefully evaluate the real advantage of the card.

Credit cards go down, contactless arrives

After the smartphones come contactless mobile phones, the new payment method that will bury credit cards, ATMs and cash: the contactless.
contactless

Technology never stops, and we must try to keep up with it. Considering that now you do not have to leave the house for shopping anymore, but you can make purchases online from the comfort of your chair, we must weigh the choice of credit card that best suits us, comparing for example the advantages offered by American Express, MasterCard or Visa.

CONTACTLESS: WHAT IS IT?
Anyone taking a quick look at the Mobile Payment Index numbers, the survey by the Dutch company Adyen , will not fail to notice that in 2013 mobile terminals were the protagonists of 20% of the total payments made during the year, with a growth of 55% compared to the previous year. The transactions carried out through this new payment method have reached a total value of 250 billion dollars.

But what are the mobile terminals? They are devices that allow you to make payments without having to insert your credit card or debit card into Pos readers. This new payment method is made possible by the existence of NFC (Near Field Communication) chips, radio devices that allow payments to be made in contactless mode, simply approaching your card to the enabled Pos.

But in the future there will no longer be only credit cards and smartphones. We've all heard of Google Glass and smartwatch. Now they have also invented the smart rings. They are all wearable devices that perform the function of current credit cards by means of small gestures. The secret is radiofrequency identification.

It has not been long ago that smartphone software was invented to enable online payments, or digital wallet services presented by the same companies that offer credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard. But technology is tirelessly at a gallop and never stops, so new things have already been circulated.

In reality, these innovations have not yet reached mass distribution, even if in an Italy with a population of 59 million people, there are 9 million smartphones equipped with NFC chips, and the Pos terminals enabled for contactless payment are already 150,000. It's only a matter of time if we think of all the devices that the big hi-tech companies offer us.
